CHAPTER V: THE 'RENTS'

That night before was the first time that Jake's dad Rick had met Dylan, and as he and Ann lay in bed and doing a bit of pillow talking, he asked...

"What you think about our son's friend?"

"Dylan? I like him. He seems to be a really nice kid. Well mannered and friendly and just, I don't know...good I guess."

"Yeh, seemed that way. You think there is anything going on with he and Jake?"

"Honestly? I don't know. But I kinda hope so," as Rick nodded assent.

"Yeh, Jake needs a friend like Dylan, and maybe more. It has always been obvious to me that that is what will eventually happen and so as far as I am concerned it needs to be a guy who will treat him right. Always."

"Agreed."

They had never talked about Jake and his orientation, but obviously both had come to the same conclusion.

"Let's keep our fingers crossed."

"Jake is such a good looking kid," Rob asserted and Ann agreed. "Yeh, he definitely is a looker, like his dad," and Rick laughed quietly. "Really," he smiled and Ann nodded.

Jake's looks came naturally of course. Facially he strongly resembled his father while in every other way he was the spitting image of Ann. From the white-blonde hair to the slender body and virtually dreamy hotness.

"Agreed," Ann said...and then a kiss and sleep came to both of them.

Jake had no clue what his parents thought about his feelings and would have been astounded to know that this is what they thought...at least for now.

As to the conversation about Jake's looks, Rick and Ann were dead on right. Jake was 6' of hotness, toe-head to the nth, cute as fuck, slender to the point of emaciation but definitely well proportioned...and he and Dylan with his stunning dark looks and big baby-blue eyes to match Jake's made them an awesome couple to be sure.

At this point, nobody...especially Dylan, had a clue whether his parents knew about him being into guys, or at least ONE guy. He had never seemed interested in dating anybody of either sex and mostly into his studies and his hobbies. That had been okay with them since they had had endless problems with Dylan's older brother Kevin. It was kind of a relief to have at least one son they didn't have to worry about.

As Ann was falling asleep she decided she would ask Dylan if he would ask if his parents wanted to come over for dinner...and she and Rick could kind of 'feel them out', so to speak. She felt that was the best way to know and then fell off into dreamland.

Rick was thinking the same thing...and so it was.

That Saturday night found Dylan's parents arriving for dinner while Dylan and Jake lay on Jake's bed waiting. For what they weren't too sure, but Jake knew his mother well enough to know something was afoot even if he had no clue what.

Dinner went well and afterward Ann and Dylan's mother shooed the boys off upstairs, the guys went into the TV room, and the two women set about clearing up the kitchen mess, and feeling each other out about the boys since Ann had picked up that Diana Dylan's mother was also ahead of the game even if his father didn't seem to be.

"This is so nice and what a beautiful house, Ann," Diana said while rinsing the dishes.

"Thanks. We like it."

"I cannot wait to build our own house here. Where we are is ok, but it will never feel like home."

"Rentals can be like that. A cover over the head but little more," and Diana agreed.

"I am so glad Jake and Dylan have become such good friends," and Diana immediately picked up on that.

"Oh me too. Our son has always been a bit of a loner and we have felt he needed to get close to someone 'cause being alone all the time just isn't healthy."

"Agreed. That has been the thing with Jake too. So now they have each other," and Diana nodded and added...

"I hope for a very very long time too," and Ann nodded vigorously. "Oh God yes."

And that seemed to seal the deal as far as they were concerned and time would prove them conspiring to get the boys closer together and long term. Jake and Dylan didn't stand a chance. LOL.
