CHAPTER II: NOW WHAT?

Jake had not a clue what was going on inside Dylan's head. He wasn't sure he wanted to either for fear he wouldn't like the answer to the question in his brain. He knew what right now he wanted more than anything, and then it struck him

'WAIT, this is a GUY, doofus. What the HELL do you think you are doing, getting all hornytoad and catastrophically idiotically goofy over a GUY? What will everyone think. AND MY GAWD, you walked all the way to the car holding his hand for God's sake," he thought to himself.

"Hey he was holding MY hand," as if that made all the difference in the world and of course Jake was grasping at the last straw in the jar to be sure.

They got up the back walk and inside and leading the way Jake led Dylan to the stairs and down to the rec room.

"NICE PAD, hot stuff."

"Thanks but it's the 'rents of course."

"Same thing," and Dylan laughed the most awesome laugh Jake had ever heard. He felt his knees buckling and grabbed the wall to steady himself.

"I let mine think our place is theirs too, but of course everyone knows it is my inheritance-in-waiting. LOL. You alright?" Dylan asked.

"Yep. Just adjusting to the light."

"Ok," that's kewl sounding totally convinced but probably wasn't. They got downstairs in a flash and headed to the wet bar for cokes.

"Gorgeous bar. Seems fitting," Dylan said with almost a leer.

"Oh my GOD he is gorgeous," Jake thought to himself.

This was all so new to him...he wasn't sure of anything as they sat there next to each other on one of the huge leather couches. Suddenly Dylan reached over and took Jake's hand in his, and there they sat.

Jake didn't know what to say or do, and to do nothing seemed odd as well. They sat quietly neither one saying anything for a bit, and then...

"You got brothers or sisters," Dylan asked quietly.

"Nope. I am one of a kind," and he laughed softly.

"Best way to be. I got three brothers. All mutts. One older, and two younger."

"No sisters?"

"Nope, at least none the 'Rents have admitted to."

Jake laughed again.

He began to relax.

"How old are your brothers?"

"Kevin, the oldest is 17. I am 16. Next comes my brother Teddy at 15 and lastly Kenny the speedster is 14."
"Wow, close together."

"Yep, then mother fired a warning shot and that was that."

Jake and Dylan both laughed.

"Actually the last two were so close together there was some speculation that they might have actually been twins except Teddy is a bit slow so..."

Laughter. "I hear she has both a pistol and a tazer for good luck, for her at least," and more laughter.

"Hey, you wanna play some pool?" Jake asked.

"Sure. You got a table?"

"Sure do," and Jake led Dylan into the next room and a monstrous Billiards table of obvious vintage.

"DAMN, KEWL," Dylan exclaimed.

"Yeh, dad got it for a song from an old pool hall that was about to be torn down."

"Outrageous," and then the play began in earnest.

The 'play' lasted for about an hour and a half and the near awkward attempts at conversation Jake had been mustering had come to a screeching halt for which he was REALLY grateful. He didn't seem to have a clue what to say to this God from the planet OHMAHGAWD. and wondered if he ever would.

Then Ann came home and hearing the two boys downstairs came down to ask...

"Dylan, you staying for dinner? Roast beef tonight."

"I would love to but my parents have company coming and I promised to come home. In fact I really should leave."

"Some other time then."

"Yeh, kewl," Dylan countered and then he went upstairs and left and Jake stood there and stood there, and alone as Ann had gone upstairs right behind Dylan. This was an occurence of incredible importance Jake knew but he had no idea what to do or say or even think about it, or anything else about now. ALL HE REALLY KNEW IS...he was 'over the moon' about Dylan. But now what?
