CHAPTER VIII: LIFE GOES ON

Dinner that night found Rick and Ann and the Lassiters and Margaret McGraw seated in the dining room at the McCandless house. Dylan's older brother was put in charge at home, and Diana had left dinner for all of them.

Dylan and 'the talk' seemed to be the conversation du jour and Dylan was suitably humbled and Jake was proud and so was everyone else.

"I just felt it needed to be said, that's all," Dylan said amidst the praise.

"But honey, it still took guts to say it, at least say it out loud and to an auditorium full of your peers." This from Ann.

"Yeh, and he was just great," Jake piped up,

"I am very grateful, Dylan," Margaret said quietly and suddenly everyone was reminded of what they were talking about in earnest. Her son and his beating.

They had gotten good news in the late afternoon. Larry was progressing, slowly but making progress and the doctors were encouraged. He had suffered a horrible beating but it now looked as if he would survive. For that everyone was grateful, except perhaps for the bastards who did it to him.

Dylan and Jake helped clear the table after dinner and then went up to what was now clearly 'THEIR' bedroom and piled into bed. 

"God I am glad THAT is over," Dylan laughed.

"You deserved it honey," Jake said quietly and almost didn't get it out before Dylan kissed him really passionately and...
