CHAPTER XXII: WHEN DOES THE FUN BEGIN

They all sat, nervously, as Greg and Ann laid out what they hoped was a sure-fire plan to 'get the goods'...and with nobody getting hurt. All were more than a bit nervous which would be perfectly normal...and trying desperately not to show it which is equally normal.

They talked and mused and considered and rejected and compromised and at about 8:30 decided that they had the plan they felt was most likely to succeed. They knew also they needed to let Bobby go home, and with a plausible excuse for being so late.

After Bobby and Charlie left, Greg, Luke, Ann and Randy sat staring at each other and at their shoes and the walls and anything else that wouldn't attack them for staring.

"GOD I hope this works," Greg said. Luke and Ann nodded in the affirmative. Well, time would indeed tell and that was that. After figuring that they could freak out equally as well in their houses, they left to go home and try to get some rest. The plan was the plan and there was little more they could do until it went into effect. Of course this was all perfectly and situationally normal, but of course too...it never feels that way until afterward.

"Don't need any fucking glitches, honey, and Luke wholeheartedly agreed.

"Don't trim your nails tonight, sweetie. You will need them for clawing and scratching."

Greg made a real effort at laughing and somewhat succeeded before Luke put his arms around him, and that was that as they say.

Ann got home in short order and immediately went to find Dylan and Jake to clue them in on what was about to go down and found them in their room studying. Ok, studying and smooching, but hey.

Greg and Luke got home also in pretty short order, and while Greg went to take a shower Luke set about making dinner...although he wasn't hungry and doubted Greg would be either but it was one way to pass the time...and he made a to die for salad, baked potatoes, cauliflower, and strip steaks that looked good enough to...

Greg appeared just as prep reached a crescendo, and immediately started making appropriate appreciative noises. Luke smiled and laid one on him, on the kisser.

Dinner came and went, albeit with lots of leftovers as neither of them was really hungry and after that neither felt like doing much of anything so off to bed and sleep came quickly.

The next day, a Friday, came finding Greg, Luke, Randy, and Ann firmly ensconced in one of the examining rooms at the precinct discussing 'the plan'. Bobby was expected to come after school.

Ann had a court case at 1pm...and so she left to finish the prepare and then it was as they say down to 3.

"God will this day ever end," Greg mused and Luke offered that it was only 9:15 and they had a ways to go.

The plan included putting a wire on Randy but not on Bobby. Randy would pretend to be a new student at Bobby's school from Kansas (where he had lived) and they had struck up a friendship. Seemed plausible and whether or not it was...it was what they had.
