CHAPTER XXI: SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN...OR

Greg scampered down to his office where Luke sat patiently.

"Honey, got an idea. Want to know what you think,"

and Greg proceeded to fill Luke in on his little brainfart.

For a minute Luke just sat looking at him and Greg began to fear he wasn't going to...

"Okay. Let me run it by the Captain, and Randy. Ok?"

Whew.

"yeh, good," and he left to let Luke make the phone calls setting the plan in motion.

Greg was barely aware that what he was doing was indeed hatching a plan, and even so...he wouldn't have cared as long as it worked and nobody got hurt.

"Ann, Luke is making calls back to the precinct to sound out the Captain and Randy. We should know in a bit. In the meantime, I think I will order in some food for the kid in there. He probably hasn't eaten and God knows he is going to need to."

"Agreed."

and so while they waited for Luke, Greg ordered in a pizza and some burgers and fries, and cokes, and he had been right. Bobby hadn't eaten and when the food arrived he acted like he hadn't eaten for years. Greg sat and watched, almost like spectators in front of the lions den at the zoo during feediing time. Fascinating in an odd sort of way.

It took about two and a half hours for Kalamazoo to make all the arrangements and then for Randy (followed by his captain for good measure) to make it to the local precinct, and Greg was antsy to the max the whole time. Sitting, paciing, going and talking to Ann, pacing some more. Luke tried to keep him calm but knew he was failing miserably although they both knew it wasn't his fault and Greg loved him even more for trying.

"Greg honey, you are going to bore a hole in the floor you keep pacing like that."

" I know.  I cannot help it," and Luke knew what Greg was going through, but FINALLY (or so it seemed) Randy and his captain Charlie arrived. Greg got Ann updated and then they all went into the room where Bobby Fowler sat, nervously....to the point he made Greg look calm by comparison.
